Patient Interface

UI/UX design for startup Psyrin

Skills I used

User Research

Psyrin is a startup developing a voice-based psychosis detection platform that enables patients with Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorder (SSD) or Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPAD) to complete assessments remotely; these assessments inform clinicians of the patient’s mental state so they can call them into the clinic when appropriate.

The following prototypes are part of the second iteration of my submission for the patient interface of Psyrin. It was done after 1 year in design school, where I learned more about UI design.

Confidence, Privacy, and Motivation through Design

Thanks to user interviews and tests, 3 core design principles were outlined for this interface:

Confidence:
- users should know when their next test window is
- users should be able to navigate the interface with confidence, especially the task section
- they should know whether their microphone check was performed correctly, whether their voice sample is being/ -      was recorded, and whether they can record again if they need to
- the word test/assessment was avoided, words related to success and failure were  replaced

Privacy:
- users should be able to exit the task at any time and resume smoothly
- they should be able to test whether their headphones are connected properly
- they should also be informed of how their data is being collected.

Motivation:
- a streak system was added to the interface to motivate users to stay consistent.
- a progress bar was added under the test section to let users know how much they have left.

Other:
- A good balance between friendly and serious tone was used.

- No triggering visuals were used

- Resources are easily accessible, as some feedback was that one might log onto Psyrin just for them
